Electronic bookreaders

i was thinking of investing some money in a digital reader (amazon kindle, the sony reader,etc.) so that i would have a more portable option for my reading. However, i live in the cayman islands would i still have access to books via download?

The Kindle uses the Sprint cell phone network, so it is very unlikely. I don't know about the Sony, but both can probably be loaded through USB, but you're on your own in finding the books.

what do they do?

my usb won't work (the one that connects to the camera and the computer hard drive)

would a card reader be ideal, shuold i get one?

I would buy one.. you can't go wrong with one.

I have a Canon Power shot if that makes any difference

im looking for the thing that you can put into your computer and is basically a generic way for any flash card(that fits) to be read by the computer

I got one for my camera that plugs into the usb port on my laptop for about $8+shipping on Ebay. It was an older model Efilm reader that doesn't read all of the new formats, but it reads standard and SD cards which is all I use for my Canon Elph. Very easy to use, just plug it into usb port and slip card into reader. It does the rest and very quickly. I've had mine for a few years now and never had a problem.

I just learned that i am getting the Kindle from my husband for christmas.(so excited) Anyway i was looking at the add for target and came across the digital reader from sony. Does anyone know what the difference is??? If so which one is better then??? thanks( although i am keeping the Kindle -its from my husband.)

In addition to the advantages mentioned by the other posters, the Kindle has on more major one - the selection available. Amazon currently offers about 185,000 titles in Kindle format, and they're adding more all the time. The last time I checked, the Sony only had about 20,000 titles available. With that much selection available, you can pretty much guarantee always having something to read that you will enjoy.

I don't want to sound like a dummy but I was thinking about getting a digital reader and was on the Sony site and I seen to the side some additional service plan prices and was wondering if these were costs to have the book or were like warranty prices? Just curious. Thanks.

it all depends on the eBook reader you get. Some of them have wifi and cell phone chips inside so that you can donwload books on the go. You don't have to use those services if you don't want, you'll just have to plug the eBook reading into your PC to download new books.
