Electronic bookreaders

Im thinking about buying the Kindle 2 from Amazon, and I was wondering what everyone has to say about it. I don't want to spend 400 dollars on something that im not going to enjoy. Any and all thoughts will be welcome.

I've made my pre-order and I can't wait for it. I love the idea to carry lots of books and magazines anywhere without actually bringing the heavy books along with me. And I like the text-to-speech function, which means I can have my hand holding other things and eyes looking around but still reading (listening) the books. What a wonderful idea!

Amazon announced their new Kindle. Thinking of getting one but I have a load of pdf files. Can I load my own pdfs onto the Kindle 2, without any "service" charge?

You can email your pdfs to "name"@free.kindle.com once you've set up your kindle account and they will convert them to their .azw. You'll have to load them through the usb connection instead of wireless. Or you can convert them yourself to .prc which the kindle supports natively.

Im thinking of buying a Kindle 2 digital book reader and it costs 360 bucs. Amazon offers an extended warranty for 60 dollars that covers one accidental damage over a 2 year period. Should I get this? My policy is usually to just be careful.

I have bought the warranty personally. I think it depends on how you use it. Since I'll carry it along with me everywhere, I just buy it for extra safety so I can use it without worrying of damaging it within these 2 years.

I can't figure out how to email or download the documents I have on my computer to my kindle 2. Please help?

First, they have to be in a format that the Kindle can read. The easiest way to do that is to save them in a text only format. When you save, select "save as" - then choose a .txt format. You can then connect the kindle to your computer with the USB cable, navigate to the device's "documents" folder, then drag and drop the files onto the Kindle. When you unplug it, they will show up on your home screen.

If your documents are in a .pdf format, Amazon will convert them for you. You can email them as an attachment to YourKindleName@kindle.com for wireless delivery to your Kindle (at a 10 cent charge per conversion), or to YourKindleName@free.kindle.com where the converted document will be emailed back to you. Then just drag and drop as described above.
